Life

Hiatus?

by Gav 22 Comments

I am busy. I just don’t have the time for trading and blogging.  I am busy preparing my new job, and new life. Yup, I am leaving Singapore soon. My next destination is Melbourne, Australia. A challenging job is waiting for me.
I guess, I will have to stop trading for a short while.

I’ll be back.

How is everybody’s health?

by Gav 4 Comments

I read a couple good postings on Trading for a living at Movethemarkets and Eyal did a follow up as well. There are couple of good points to note. However, I am not very keen in joining the conversation now, to me, when the time comes (Trading for a living), I will know.

A thread “How is everybody’s health?” in EliteTrader caught my attention. To me , this is far more important than struggling about “should I quit my day job now?”. I have wrote a post on similar topic before.
The thread started with this question

“(As a trader) How do you keep yourself FIT, Normal in Society?”

I am listing some good points mentioned in the thread.

  • Eat right.
  • Work out regularly(preferably outside)
  • Maintain good sleep habits.
  • Keep your stress in check
  • Keep life in perspective

Health is far more important than the “R” you are trying to earn. Make sure you keep yourself fit to enjoy everything that money can get for you.

My new year resolution

by Gav Leave a Comment

A little bit late, but here is my new year resolution

Trading:

  • Working towards a consistent profitable trader , I have another new year resolution for trading.

Health:
Get back to shape. I see my health condition dropping at the second half of 2006. I will pick up the gym gear again. I am only at my late twenties, I might have looked like 40s if I am not changing my lifestyle. I admit that after start trading American market in the evening, my overall health condition is affected. Though it is not significant now, it might cause serious problem later.I need to keep an healthy body to enjoy my culinary journey.

Here is the plan:

  • Regular workout in gym, with minimum 3 hours a week of weight training as well as cardio training.
  • Watch out my food. Cut down junk food consumption.
  • Limit to one coffee a day, and replace the additional drink to Green Tea.
  • 1 serving of fruit daily.
  • Cut down carbo consumption, increase protein intake.
  • Get as much sleep as possible.
  • Continue ‘alcohol-free’ life.

Mental:

  • Spend more time with my fiancee, and family. Spend the whole Saturday and Sunday to do anything not related to trading or do nothing at all. Stay away from market. Trading preparation work on starts from Sunday evening.
  • Pick up my guitar again. I have neglected my buddy for years. I plan to bring him back to life. If possible, I would sign up Jazz guitar class.
  • I plan to have 2 additional culinary trips this year. Currently, Macau and ShangHai are on top my list this year. I am visiting to Jakarta next month.

Plan in lieu:
I am preparing for migration to another country. Once I get the green light, it will be a major change of life. Current status: Waiting.

Here’s to an excellent 2007.

Busy weekend

by Gav 9 Comments

A couple of missions accomplished over the weekend. Firstly, I am reading the second half of “Trading in the zone“, though I have yet to finish the book, I am upgrading this book in to category 4 in my trading library. I will definitely read it again and again.

It is Christmas season again. Christmas in Singapore is an excuse for merchants to have sales. (When hear about Christmas, that means SHOPPING, not ‘Going to church’, got what I mean? 😉 )I grabbed

The Master Swing Trader: Tools and Techniques to Profit from Outstanding Short-Term Trading Opportunities by Alan S. Farley and

an audio book Lessons in Mastery by Anthony Robbins.

All these come with 20% discount from normal price.
Secondly. I have been lagging in journaling my stocks swing trades (Singapore stocks market though). I am not an active stocks trader (around 1 or 2 trades a week). I have set up a corner to keep track of my stocks trade at Gav is trading stocks.

btw, I think it is a good idea to watch the movie “Happy Feet“. It is entertaining. Funny, cute and some very cool songs.

Hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving break.

Feeling of going home

by Gav Leave a Comment

Well, I have reinstalled Tradestation, and it looks fine now. I hope it won’t failed me again tomorrow. I gotta get back to trade. Maybe I am not very satisfied with my living and working environment in Singapore. I have never had such a strong desire of moving back to my home, Malaysia. I don’t know why. Anyway, I don’t think this will happen shortly. Face the reality, it is still not the time for me to move back. [Read more…] about Feeling of going home
