Busy weekend

by Gav 9 Comments

A couple of missions accomplished over the weekend. Firstly, I am reading the second half of “Trading in the zone“, though I have yet to finish the book, I am upgrading this book in to category 4 in my trading library. I will definitely read it again and again.

It is Christmas season again. Christmas in Singapore is an excuse for merchants to have sales. (When hear about Christmas, that means SHOPPING, not ‘Going to church’, got what I mean? ๐Ÿ˜‰ )I grabbed

The Master Swing Trader: Tools and Techniques to Profit from Outstanding Short-Term Trading Opportunities by Alan S. Farley and

an audio book Lessons in Mastery by Anthony Robbins.

All these come with 20% discount from normal price.
Secondly. I have been lagging in journaling my stocks swing trades (Singapore stocks market though). I am not an active stocks trader (around 1 or 2 trades a week). I have set up a corner to keep track of my stocks trade at Gav is trading stocks.

btw, I think it is a good idea to watch the movie “Happy Feet“. It is entertaining. Funny, cute and some very cool songs.

Hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving break.

Happy Holiday!

by Gav Leave a Comment

Well, Kinda surprised. Manchester United lost 1-0 to Celtic in Champions League this morning. Next meeting with Benfica will be a do-or die match. We gotta beat them to reach knock out stage. Let’s see. Anyway, you know, we are a solid team with excellent players. Go Man U , Go.
Ok , back to business. I sensed something ‘dangerous’ while trading ES (E-mini S&P) on Tuesday, it was reluctant to go anywhere. People are having turkey early. Most likely I am not trading on Wednesday and Friday, but I’ll be watching.

If you have not read J.C (NYSE Scalper’s Tale) yesterday’s post. Go and read it. J.C just wrote about his conversation with the latest Master Trader in his office.

Happy holiday,it is Thanksgiving, though we are not celebrating ThanksGiving in Singapore, a workaholics’ paradise. ๐Ÿ™

TICK Band trading #02 21-Nov-2006: ES Long trade closed

by Gav Leave a Comment

Pre-market was weak. Nothing was really exciting today. I was looking for opportunity to scalp ES. Another TICK Band setup was formed. After Intraday high was tested twice and failed to be cleared, I was looking for opportunity to get long and targeted at day high.

  • Long above high of 7th bar
  • Stop set at low of 7th bar
  • Target at day high (high of 3rd and 4th bar)

Target hit with +1 ES point (1-R gain). I am looking for another opportunity again.

My trading library

by Gav 21 Comments

I’ve been thinking about listing out trading books and magazines on my shelf. I just did not have the time. Here it is. I am not grading the books, instead I am categorizing them according to my understanding and feed back after reading them. Absolutely personal opinions. [Read more…] about My trading library

TICK Band trading #01 20-Nov-2006: ES Long trade closed

by Gav Leave a Comment

I do not label this as a dummy trade. The entry was not really a narrow range bar. Instead I have established a new category called TICK Band. This trade was made based on NYSE TICK behavior.

The strategy is to catch the short term momentum in the market and trade along the direction in ES (E-mini S&P). A strong resistance was found at previous day’s high. It was tested once, and failed to clear it. I was waiting for ES to test it again.

Indeed, higher lows were formed in ES and TICK. The probability of this setup is high according my experience. That was the reason I risked 1-R to gain 0.6R. No secret, just traded with trend lines.
Target hit. First trade closed with +1 point (0.6-R) gain.
