Trading Psychology

Postmortem 20-December-2006

by Gav Leave a Comment

Nothing much to write. I will keep this short. I made one trade yesterday. I longed NQ with break even result.

I missed the downward movement after lunch hour as Trend chart was still moving up, so I did not consider any short position. After browsing through my trading journals, paper trading journals, as well as reading charts during back testing, my dummy system seems to be working better in NQ than ES or YM. No conclusion yet, just some observations.

I think this week should be the last trading week of the year. Next week should be the time for everything other than trading, if you still call yourself human. So, next week, give yourself a chance to be a human. Forget about trading, get a life.

Two more days to go before I end 2006 trading year, end of the first 6 months of my day trading life. I have not made millions, or lost my shirt, yet (in fact, I manage to achieve 10% growth of my trading capital this year). But, I am feeling good so far.

Though I did not make any trade this month, I still have 1-R loss. Data fee + Tradestation platform fee. hohoho… Merry Christmas.

Rogue Trader

by Gav Leave a Comment

I did not trade on Options expiry Friday. Didn’t bother to log into my Tradestation as well. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here is an interesting site. Nick Lesson’s official site. Here is his full Biography. I am interested in reading this, partly because, he was a futures trader, and trading SGX-Nikkei 225 Futures in Singapore and subsequently broke Barings.

I am still trying to find the VCD/DVD of the movie Rogue Trader in Singapore.

Postmortem 13-December-2006 : Random rant

by Gav Leave a Comment

It was a flat day to me. At least from my trend chart I couldn’t find any clear direction. That’s why I did not make any trade. There were great opportunities to be chopped around in 5-min charts. Looking at NQ, ES, YM and ER2, you know what I am saying.

Boy, I am so eager to trade. But, as major work in progress, I will stick to paper trading for this short while.

Another observation or experience of myself. I am better off not to read any blog, yup, not a single one before market open. Instead, spending the time writing for your own is a better idea. Any rubbish, random rant in your mind, write it down on a piece of paper (not blog). It will be even better if you have some time to meditate (suggested by Dave, but I have yet to have time to do so). Get your mind clear, then face the challenge.
Blogs are full of personal views and opinions. Again, don’t care what do Mike, Richard, J.C, or even Gav say before the market open. They are having different brains that work in different way than yours. Trade alone, think alone. Read their blogs (maybe my blog as well) in the evening, read their experience, but don’t let bloggers affect your trading mind in the morning. You have a great mind, don’t get ‘contaminated’ before start a trading day.
Ah..I just wrote too much. I shall stop here.

No trade : Fixing in progress

by Gav Leave a Comment

I know some people are bagging some profit by shorting the hell of market today. I am not trading today, partly because I did not find opportunity in the early part of the day. Instead, as advised by Dave at comment. I am going through my journal now.

He pointed out something.

“I know you’re serious about making money from trading, clearly more serious than many who try. I can “feel” from your posts that you don’t quite know how to make that happen. “

Very true. So I don’t wanna wasting my time struggling. I will see what can be fixed. Maybe I will make some postings later after discuss with Dave.

Happy Holiday!

by Gav Leave a Comment

Well, Kinda surprised. Manchester United lost 1-0 to Celtic in Champions League this morning. Next meeting with Benfica will be a do-or die match. We gotta beat them to reach knock out stage. Let’s see. Anyway, you know, we are a solid team with excellent players. Go Man U , Go.
Ok , back to business. I sensed something ‘dangerous’ while trading ES (E-mini S&P) on Tuesday, it was reluctant to go anywhere. People are having turkey early. Most likely I am not trading on Wednesday and Friday, but I’ll be watching.

If you have not read J.C (NYSE Scalper’s Tale) yesterday’s post. Go and read it. J.C just wrote about his conversation with the latest Master Trader in his office.

Happy holiday,it is Thanksgiving, though we are not celebrating ThanksGiving in Singapore, a workaholics’ paradise. ๐Ÿ™

Let’s start the week with this. Man United 2- Sheff United 1.Rooney, 3 goals in 4 days. He is back to his best again. Not trading well recently? Keep your head up, focus, focus and focus..

Go read about how Manchester United came back from behind and slaughter Sheff United.

And, secondly, read Chasing success, again from Trader-x.
