Life

Some quick updates and showing off

by Gav Leave a Comment

This is going to take some time. I am still interested in staying at the short side of $EURUSD, $GBPUSD, $AUDUSD, $NZDUSD etc…Basically I expect Dollar to get a little stronger. However, I am sitting on my cash now to wait for the moment to pull the trigger. Patience is required here. Well, I might just miss out the big movement from here,if market chooses to start selling off right now.. let’s see.

Anyway, here is the snapshot of my workstation back in Melbourne, Australia.  I had been trading from my good old DELL laptop during my traveling time in Asia. It feels so great to be back. In addition, it is challenging but fun to have a 8-month-old boy at home while I am trading. Basically, I need to wake up in the early morning, around 5am (which is the closing time of U.S session)  to finish my study and trade preparation before the little man start to wreak havoc. 🙂

Trade well.

Quote from Victor Sperandeo

by Gav Leave a Comment

In his book Trader Vic: Methods of a Wall Street Master, Victor Sperandeo mentioned:

As an aside, I want to point out that although this period of intensive study helped me immeasurably in my ability to call the markets, it cost me substantially in my personal life. My daughter, Jennifer, was at a crucial formative age (3 to 5), and I spent almost no time with her. I would get home from the office, eat, and go straight back to work in my study. When she came into my office, I would shoo her away impatiently, totally ignoring the fact that she needed her father’s attention and love. It was a bad mistake that both of us are paying for today. If I had to do again, I would draw out the study period and give Jennifer more time.

After reading this paragraph, I have been doing a lot of thinking. I’m not sure if this is a common mistake among traders, I, sometimes, make the similar mistake. We know this business requires a lot of time, effort, attention, but our loved ones require more.

Just being a little bit emotional. Anyway, this book is really a good read. If you haven’t done so, go and get one.

Challenge ahead

by Gav Leave a Comment

It had been two tough and dark weeks for me. But, I reckon the worst is over. If you follow me on twitter, you’ll know what I am talking about. There’s nothing worse than looking at your loved ones falling sick, lying on the bed. Well… I don’t want to repeat and recall that. Let’s say, all is good now.

So, what is next for me? Exciting, and challenging. I am finishing up my current day job at the end of this month, and due to some family health issues, I am required to travel around Indonesia/Malaysia/Singapore/Australia for the next 6 months or so.  Well, trading is the only thing that I can/I want to do under this situation. Is this called full time trading? Whatever, I don’t care.  Bottom line is , I will have more time on market research, and trading, but, in different countries. I am excited about this challenge. But, I still want to call Australia home. I just love Melbourne.

You’ll never know what life is going to offer you tomorrow. So I choose to enjoy the challenge. There are still some small issues to be settled, and I should be back to action next week.

It can be tough, tougher, or even the toughest. But there’s no ‘toughester’, so it will be better at the end of the day.

Have a good trading week.

Update 07-May-2009

by Gav Leave a Comment

I did not take a single trade this week. This is partly due to a series of heavy weighted economic figures scheduled this week. The main reason is because of some urgent issues in family that need to be handled. I am still watching market in the early morning, and late night when I am available.

It really hurts to see your loved one in such bad condition. It hurts me more when I realized the fact that there were early signs and warnings which I did not pay enough attention and focus too much on my work and myself…Well, I am not going to write too much about this now. But, the fact is I am feeling bad now, both emotionally and physically. Anyway, life still goes on, I am not going to let myself be trapped in this situation.

Take a closer look at your loved ones in your family. They deserve more attention than you have thought.

Posting will be light to none this week, and I hope things will get into full swing next week. I will be active on my Twitter, sometimes, 140 characters work for me.  If you are interested to listen my nonsense, and shameless/fatal market calls, follow me here.

Have a good week.

Something for your long weekend

by Gav Leave a Comment

I shared this video with my friends on Facebook. I thought it is an good idea to share it here with my readers for this long Easter weekend. This has absolutely nothing to do with trading. It is about life. I love it. Enjoy. Again, watch it, you’ll get it.

Happy Easter.

Update & Happy Easter

by Gav Leave a Comment

A busy week for me. Enough stress and frustrations at my work place. I am trying to keep my head cool, and ignore the nonsense after leaving office. Since I am not in good mental and physical states, I did not make short term trade this week. Instead, I have been watching AUDUSD for 2 weeks. Some of my favourite patterns are back. I would probably trade more next week.

A long Easter weekend. My family is visiting me in Melbourne. It is always great to see them around. But the departure later is always bad. That’s life.

Cold weather starts moving into Melbourne. I am loving it.

Just some quick update.

Happy Easter.
