Microsoft may aim for Yahoo! acquisition
Software giant considering major purchase of Yahoo! stock in effort to keep up with steamrolling industry leader Google, newspaper reports.

May 3, 2006: 9:53 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – Microsoft has been in talks with Yahoo! about potentially acquiring a major portion of the company, according to a report published Wednesday.

Members of the company’s top management are considering a deal despite Microsoft’s history of winning over major technology markets – think Web browsers – on its own, The Wall Street Journal said.

Microsoft has tried to compete in the burgeoning online search and Web advertising categories on its own but made little progress as Google has made massive gains as the industry leader, according to the story.

Microsoft executives hope that Yahoo’s strength in search and advertising categories would give the company a stronger foothold on the Web, the report said. So far, millions of dollars invested in search-engine technology and online ad systems have yielded little in the way of revenue or market share for the company, according to the Journal.

This is not news anymore, I am slow again. I heard this from my fiancee and did a quick search on Google. From a user perspective, I hope this is not for real.
If we are around the same age, I guess your first free email account should be Hotmail. Yeah, I did not know internet, but I knew Hotmail. What an old brand. But, now, how many of you still with it? If not MSN messenger, I would forget about my hotmail id totally (my emails has been wiped out without a reason). To me, current Hotmail is a failure, I have supporters. Even my dog asks me to go for Gmail. LOL

So now, Microsoft is buying Yahoo! ?!?! God bless.

This is just another piece of nonsense from me. Have a great weekend.

Google docs gets better – Now with charts

by Gav Leave a Comment

docsslogo.gifI use to draft my trading strategies and keep my trading journals with Google docs and spreadsheet service. It just gets better. Now Google spreadsheet finally integrates charting service. I can plot my performance charts online. Though charting functions are still limited, it is good enough for keeping trading journal.

the company rolled out a new version of Spreadsheets today with charting and a few other worthwhile features. The free Web-based app is still more of a Spreadsheet Jr. than a full-bodied Excel rival, but it’s becoming more and more plausible as a real productivity tool, especially if collaboration is involved… full article here.

Home or a house

Billionaire gives mansions to Hawaii’s native homeless

  • Billionaire gives three families keys to multimillion-dollar houses Thursday
  • He says he will open eight of his 22 homes to needy Hawaiian families
  • The families will be able to stay in the homes for up to 10 years
  • Some neighbors speculate he is trying to drive down real estate values

Is he being philanthropic or a property trader? time will tell.

His neighbour was saying:

“Everyone’s paying homage to him, but in reality, he’s the problem,” said Mark Blackburn, who lives down the street from Kahale’s new home. “Houses are homes. They’re made to live in; they aren’t investment vehicles.”
