Gav’s Morning Coffee 12-Jan-2007

by Gav Leave a Comment

I am trying to write a post every morning to prepare myself before start a trading day. Well, I am trying. Let’s see how it goes. Today I am a little bit late though.
I am looking at NQ (E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures). From daily chart, 60-min chart to 5-min chart, I am still rather positive. I won’t be surprised if we have a choppy day. I am interested in watching if NQ is able to go beyond yesterday’s high.

  • Yesterday’s High: 1856.5
  • Yesterday’s Low: 1832.5
  • Support area: 1844.81

Let’s have a good trading day.

No trade 11-Jan-2007; Distracted trader

by Gav Leave a Comment

I am kinda frustrated. I just can’t concentrate on trading today. And well, I missed the entry around 1035am in NQ. That’s a very profitable entry.? Watching NQ making new highs without me. I call it a day now, stop wasting my time since I am not being myself.

Postmortem 10-Jan-2007 : Missing the forest again? Maybe not…

by Gav Leave a Comment

Did I miss the forest again? By looking at the chart of NQ after closing bell, I “should have” earned couple more Rs “if” I hold on my position instead of moving my stop to lock in early profit. (I would have been stopped out also even though I only moved my stop to break even point). NQ did a weak pull back by breaking the trend cycle for a while and stalled at previous day’s high for some time before it continued moving up in the afternoon.

Well, for this trade, there were couple of signs that prompted me to exit according to my game plan. So, what can I do? I guess that’s the only sum of money the market was willing to give me.? On the other hand, maybe I should consider making a couple of trades after lunch hour as well… but well, it would be around 3am in Singapore…..
Not so “happy” by missing the afternoon move, but pretty satisfied with my game plan execution so far.

Dummy day trading #42 10-Jan-2007: NQ Long trade closed

by Gav Leave a Comment

Long position of NQ was established when a new uptrend cycle formed. Observing the higher lows and higher highs in 5-min chart. This was an entry above opening range and facing yesterday high. I trailed my stop to lock in 1-R profit after the position was gaining more than 2-R and stalled at yesterday’s high level. Stop was hit, I was out with 1-R profit.

Trade summary

  • Long above the high of 14th candle (10:35am NY time) which was the first pull back of the new trend cycle.
  • Initial stop was set below the low of 14th candle.
  • Position was closed below yesterday’s high.

One trade closed with 1-R gain

No trade; Patience vs temptation 1:0

by Gav Leave a Comment

There were some swings in minutes chart of NQ. There was no clear trend, or should I say that the trend was changing couple of times, intraday. I had to be extra cautious and patient to stay out from being chopped around.

I did not trade yesterday, however I saw some opportunities in shorter time frame like 1 minute and 2 minute charts. I am not jumping into these now, but it is worth to have a closer look at how things change in these short time frame. I have couple of new setups added into my library, well, still to be studied.

Still flat for the week.
