Tradestation…FAILED again

by Gav 16 Comments

I feel very cold here. Because…my tradestation charts and quotes are FROZEN again?!? So cold…I can’t trade at all… YM, NQ, ES, ER2 all frozen like ice….

I don’t know what is going on here. Does anyone of you trading futures on tradestation and having the same problem? Please shoot me a comment.

I am trying to reinstall Tradestation build 3258 (man, i never know they have upgraded to this release) , hope it works.

I guess, I am unlikely to make any trade today.

    Hi TraderGav,

how do you subscribe to Tradestation and what is the cost per month for Tradestation. Are they your broker. And what is their fees per contract for futures.

    Gav –

Too late to help today, but I haven’t seen a problem either of the last two days. I’m still on 3247 – also didn’t see an upgrade notice – maybe as I tend to stay logged in. I’m connected to TX02DS003.

    Hi Pete,
Thanks for your help. I was using build 3247 before and TX02DS001. I did not make any change, it just failed to work after I am back from vacation. YMZ06, NQZ06.D, ESZ06.D were frozen in ‘regular session’.Anyway, I have installed 3258, let’s see if it works during opening. I will try to tweak the servers see if it works.

    Michael,
You can find all the details of Tradestation at their website. All commission, subscription fees are available online.

Hey Gav, any reason you prefer TradeStation? Do you use the backtesting and coding? I used TradeStation back in 2000 (in HK) and again in 2004 (in Sg), had very bad lag experience both with Singtel and Starhub (I had both at the same time). Also the shortable stocks list was quite bad. Maybe it’s improved since then?

    Hi Gav, good morning.

Yeah I’m with IB, took a bit of getting used to the Java thing as I came from eye-candy rich TradeStation as well. I’ve been with IB for 2 years now and I am very happy with it because:

    1. Very good execution
    2. Super low commission
    3. Even if I don’t trade the monthly fee is very low (never had to pay it though)
    4. It’s rock solid, even if all other apps on my machine start playing up or crashing TWS keeps on working.
    5. They actually improved the responsiveness of the application, no sluggishness.
    6. Very good interest payment on balances
    7. All the trading products I’ll ever need and then some
    8. 1 free TT out per month
    9. Multi-currency, I keep some of my account in GBP to offset the USD exposure
    10. Ah yes and loads of order types and combos. Once I put on a trade I enter all my stop loss and MOC exit orders and can shut down for the day letting it all play out.

Only complaint I have to IB is shortable list could be better.

Err I think I got carried away a bit with this post lol and no I don’t get commission from IB ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Good luck today

ah yes, I don’t really know anything about futures commission. although I’m starting to look into it as another trading vehicle. but I need to identify some system/edge before I jump in.

    Hey Eyal,
    Good morning.
I made a switch from Strategy runner to Tradestation few months ago. The main reason is the overall cost structure. Lower commission and I got the software free for making 10 round turns of futures trading each month.
I did a little bit of programing of indicator though. No back testing.

I considered IB. But I was turned off by Trader workstation (THE Java application).

How bout you? Any software to recommend?

Wow, you sound like a big fan of IB ๐Ÿ™‚
For super low commission, I think it does not apply to Futures trading.IB’s commission is not the lowest in town, somewhat, just in line with Tradestation. I am considering MB trading now. No minimum trade required and lower commission, they are focusing on trade execution. The downside is, no charting service, I have to subscribe to third party service for chart. uhm…
