Dummy day trading #63 20-Mar-2007: ZG Long trade closed

by Gav Leave a Comment

Does Gold always rally once a day? Just kidding. I got in long position around 1036am , trying to get into second rally. However, I was wrong. I was stopped with -1 R loss.

There seems to be some problem with Tradestation order execution. My stop order was not honoured immediately. Though I saw there were numbers of ask and bid orders. It hanged for a couple of seconds before it came back to fill my order. Phew….

Anyway, here is the dumb trade. Very bad entry. I need to be patient a little bit more. I am still FLAT for March.

Journal note: Phileo at Phileo’s Picture Windows did two nice trades on ZG. I was wondering, if I am again having the same problem of missing the forest again. I tend to over concerntrate on tick-by-tick action instead of stepping back a little and look at the bigger picture. There were indeed some nice dummy spots to get into ZG trade today, and , well, I missed it all.

Trades 14-Mar-2007

No dummy trade as mentioned in my Twitter box.

I made two trades on ZG today. Both were losers. First trade exceeded my R as I was using stop order instead of stop limit order as usual. That’s a mistake. First trade ended with -1.31 R loss. Second trade was stopped with -0.68 R loss (Trailing stop was triggered). End the day with -1.99 R.

I have two losing days in a row with more than 3 losing trades. I will stop trading for the week to prevent myself from revenge trading.

Trades 13-Mar-2007

No dummy trade today since I can’t see any clear trend. Instead, I have made a couple of scalping trades (my BnB strategy). Long ER with -1 R loss, Short ZG with +0.31 R and Short ZG with +0.09 R (break even trade). End the day with -0.6 R loss.
Stocks index futures market still sucks, chop fest. I am focusing in Gold (ZG) market now.

Pretty tired. Chart later, maybe.

Journal note update: ER2 trade was a dumb trade. I was trying to pick oversold bottom during opening. Instead, it was flat till lunch hour and continued selling. DUMB.

Recently, actions in equity futures seems to be delayed until lunch hour. It is pretty tough for me. Well, seems like there is really a need for me to focus more on a couple of commodities. Of course, again, do it one by one. Now, it is Gold time for me. I just love this fellow. So far, March has been a flat month, well, a little bit negative now.

BnB trading 12-Mar-2007: ZG (100oz Gold) short trade closed

by Gav Leave a Comment

This is the first trade of my scalping strategy. Since it is a rather choppy day for equity futures. I had a negative view of Gold. Short position of ZG was established when Gold was stalled around upper bollinger band. My target was not achieved and I bailed out when it again stalled at middle band.

One trade closed with +0.28 R gain

Dummy day trading #10 14-August-2006:Mini Gold: Short trade closed

by Gav 6 Comments

That was not so nice to start the week with a loss. Short position of GOLD was established below 8:00am (chicago time) reversal up bar. And I was stopped out by the very next candle. Nothing much to write about this trade. The possible mistake might be, the reversal up bar was in fact closed above moving averages. It was, in fact, not my favourite set up condition. Then why did I make the trade?

Secondly, it is necessary to reconsider about trading Mini Gold. Volume is low and spread is sometimes too big to be swallowed. Not a good choice for day trading.

I decided to call it a day around 1130 am (chicago time) since I do not have desired set up for stocks indices, and oil seems to be making a intraday come back. uh! I am doing nothing when market is having 3-digit gain?!? It does happen.

Vince reminded me the movie 'God Father' : 'This is the business we have chosen'

Ok, 1 trade closed with 1-R loss.

Charts: Futures recap 08-August-2006

If one of the trading rules is 'You don't need to trade everyday', Fed meeting day might be a good day to take a break from trading. Again, I decided to leave index futures alone for the day, and turned my eyes to commodities.

Well, Gold did not have a good run. I was pretty lucky since my broker did not set up Gold contract to be tradeable in my account. My Long order was rejected. A nice entry set up above 10am(chicago time) candle for Long position. However, it was eventually by the wild swing @13:00 (chicago time) candle.

Here is 30-min chart of Mini Dow futures. again 13:00 (chicago time) candle will stop out any position.

Not so good for the first two days of the week. I am still flat for this week.
